Our January selection of new music

Otters and Weasels January New Music selection

Here is our monthly selection of new music released -  January 2014 edition. Of course we just picked tracks we like, but maybe you like them too. And possibly you even discover some new tunes and artists you haven’t heard of before.

SBTRKT kicked off January with his new track “runaway” and we can’t wait for his next record. Bombay Bicycle Club are also back with a new song and their new record is out on 3rd of February. Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs teamed up with Arcade Fire for the soundtrack of the truly amazing movie “Her” by Spike Jonze. I almost forgot about Beck, he is also back in the spotlight with a new track.

My personal favorite from January is Banks, with her track Brain produced by the almighty Shlohmo.

And Ottersan has to add something to this month’s playlist: To start off the year the Candian singer Kiesza is transporting us back into the 90ies with her electropop, feel-good song “Hideaway”.Blowing away any kind of winter depressions is as well Andrew Ashong with “love the way you love me” so the super happy mood to transform the grey (typical viennese) clouds into fluffy bright ones. I think this month’s playlist is an attempt to cheer myself and all weasels and otters around up so also the new track from Tycho, who is now a 3-piece band and the song “Montana” is moving through your body like a meandering river. The Notwist  are also on the bright side with their uptempo song, with a driving beat that is enjoyable, making me looking forward to their concert in Posthof Linz in April, after I missed them at the FM4 birthday party.

And a band that definitely is more on the funny disturbing side is Childbirth with their song “I only fucked you as a joke” from the mixtape “It’s a girl”. “They are a supergroup” - Indeed!

But enough said. Just listen to the playlist :)
