After refusing for quite a bit to watch the national broadcaster tv show to choose our contestant for the Eurovision Songcontest 2015 I caved in.

All the other shows in the years before had pretty bad contestants and I was quite sure that it will be the same this time and not really worth the time watching it, but I was kind of wrong.

Actually I haven’t watched the whole thing, I just watched the songs / performances of the artists, so I cannot be influenced by all this other stuff in that show, but still I honestly have to say, I didn’t expect that level of good music. DAWA was pretty good, the Makemakes are quite decent, but …

Folkshilfe for ESC2015

Especially the Folkshilfe guys are my favorite. They clearly show perfect skills in songwriting and on their instruments, plus these lads can SING. 3 voiced chorus in perfect harmony, that stuff is really hitting me. And they have these Austrian music vibe totally incorporated in every song, not just because of the “quetschn” accordion, but also in the way they play. Every song spiced up with a little bit of funk/hip-hop and EAV and LaBrassBanda but still keeping enough of Austria in it to make it recognizable.

Both songs from the last show are great and I am still not sure which one is better.

But the most important thing is,

In my humble opinion THESE GUYS deserve to be the ones who represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 (esc2015).

The chosen song “Who you are” is a masterpiece of (songconstest) songwriting. Playing skillfully with the austrian sounds and grooves but still keeping the style of a taylor swift like pop hymn. Plus they sing the chorus in english so everybody can join in :)

Check out the songs here:

Who you are

And some special I discovered to show their potential, haha

Titanium, Bulletproof, Hangover and a few other big pop hits in Folkshilfe Style :)

Ned au (is already voted out, but still a cool song)

You can watch all the other performances of the Austrian contestants from the show here.

And even more music from Folkshilfe on their Soundcloud page sounding pretty tight and massive. Austropop 2.0
